Altar For the Wild Horses
Posted in Current on January 21st, 2008 by admin – Be the first to commentMany people are working to protect New Mexico’s wild horses. Check out www.whoa.com and www.lynnepomeranz.com and David Cramer’s photograhs at http://www.davidcramer.com. This four foot by three foot mosaic was shown at the Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, and won an award in Originals 2007 – The New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women In the Arts.
Following are details of several panels from the altar:

Losing TerritoryRapid development limits the movement of the horses. Wildlife corridors need to be identified and maintained for all wild animals. Placitas activists are working with many groups and individuals to this end.
FORD MUSTANG
A panel using the metaphor of the mustang car. I had been thinking of having money flying through the air above the car and a more arid landscape and couldn’t quite figure out how to technically create the image. I was driving in Rio Rancho and saw a HUGE sign on a semi trailor that said, “The Key To Your Happiness Is In This Ignition.” I thought how my happiness comes from the recognition of beauty and miracles, not keys and possessions. I went home and incorporated saved but no longer functional keys into the mosaic sky above the mustang car panel.
